Israel was established as a nation in the 40s, and ever since Palestinians and Arabs have been attacking the country hoping to unite the Muslim world. Right after it was established, the Arabs attacked Israel leading to the Six Day War, which ended with a victory for Israel. Anwar Sadat, the leader of Egypt, openly stated that he was ready to attack Israel and sacrifice 1 million of his men in 1972. Sadat later threatened Israel again in April 1973. On early September 1973 the Arabs surprise attacked Israel on its holy holiday, Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is a Jewish holiday that forbids Jews to use communicational devices and electronics. Yom Kippur also prevented Jews from working or doing anything that causes stress. The Arabs knew that soldiers would be at home celebrating, and with combined forces of Egypt and Syria, the fate of Israel looked bleak. Arab countries purchased one billion dollars worth of Russian weapons. The Israelites however counterattacked the Arabs and continued fighting and eventually defeated Egypt. Israel got some extra land, and they had the entire world in shock.
