      In everything decade, music plays an important roll in defining that period of time.  Popular genres of the 70s were punk bands, southern and country rock bands, hard rock and heavy metal, and disco. In the punk genre, bands like The Clash became idols for the entire generation. Southern and country bands had The Eagles. The Eagles were the dominant band of the 70s. The Eagles created five number one hit singles. Another song that symbolized the generations was Sweet Home Alabama. Hard rock and heavy metal had bands like AC/DC, Queen, and Led Zeppelin were also very popular. Songs such as “Highway to Hell” and “We Will Rock You” became anthems of hard rock. Disco is the kind of music that best defines this decade. The most famous song from the 70s was “Y.M.C.A.” which became the most popular anthem for the gay community.
